Ketchup
Is it okay to have ketchup on the side since my food is bland ?
Kindly replace ketchup or any packaged sauces with homemade chutneys as the sodium content in all pacakged sauces is high.
How much sodium is needed in daily diet?
Upto 2300mg sodium per day is safe. But there's some sodium in almost all our food items, so try to keep a check on excess added salt & salty snacks.
Instead of using ketchup to make the meal palatable, I’d recommend using herbs and spices like oregano, cumin, thyme, coriander, pepper etc in moderation. Ketchup is not a healthy alternative and should only be consumed occasionally. You can also use healthier homemade dressings/ chutneys like mint coriander chutney, amla chutney, yoghurt garlic dip, hummus etc to up the taste factor!
Sodium requirement for an adult, as per WHO is <2G/day.
