Hypertension is primarily a metabolic disease. Poor metabolic health fact is characterised by insulin resistance which can also manifest as Hypertension. Chronic stress can lead to increased level of cortisol, a hormone that can cause Blood Vessels to constrict, leading to Hypertension. In women hormonal imbalances connected to conditions such as Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can also lead to Hypertension. PCOS is characterised by excess of androgens (male hormone) and insulin resistance, which can cause blood vessels to become stiff and narrow leading to increased Blood Pressure.
