Suggestions to keep up

I've quit smoking sometime back, but sometimes the urge kicks in due to external triggers. Any suggestions?

Hi Sridhar! Nicotine can actually create a feel good effect in your brain by releasing more dopamine. Hence individuals mostly start back smoking during stressful times. With this logic, if you can increase the feel-good chemicals in your brain naturally, the urge to smoke might die down. You can try something besides smoking like- engaging in a hobby that makes you happy, listening to your favourite music or dancing, working out, practicing mindfulness meditation, eating something naturally sweet like black dates or black raisins etc. Hope this helps!!

Hello Sridhar, first of all very proud of you for giving up on smoking! You mentioned external triggers, you can start with identifying each one of them and then focus on eliminating them. For example if stress is one of those external triggers then you could talk to a therapist who can help you in processing your emotions in a better way and the need to rely on cigarettes will reduce!
