Diabetes and Stress

Stress doesn't cause diabetes but it can affect your blood sugar levels. If you’re feeling stressed, your body releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. This is a perfectly natural response if you’re in a dangerous situation, you need these hormones to prepare your body for a “fight or flight” situation. But when you’re stressed, your body releases these hormones, even if there isn’t a major physical threat involved. The result? Higher blood pressure, increased heart rate and a rise in blood sugar. If stress doesn't go away, it can keep your blood sugar levels high and put you at higher risk of diabetes complications. Hence it is extremely important you de-stress yourself with simple techniques like deep breathing, meditation and keep a happy and positive mind :)
