1/2 tbsp roasted chana dal (daria)
1/2 tbsp urad dal (split black lentils)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/4 pc bayleaf (tejpatta)
1/8 cup finely chopped onions
salt to taste
3/4 cup broccoli florets
1/8 tsp chilli powder (optional)
pinch of garam masala (optional)
Combine roasted chana dal, urad dal, and 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds in a small non-stick pan and dry roast on a medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes.
Cool & blend in a mixture with 1 cup of water, until smooth.
Heat a deep non-stick pan on a medium flame and when it is hot, add the remaining 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds and bay leaf and dry roast on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
Add the onions and dry roast on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add the broccoli and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
Add 1/2 cup of water, cover with a lid and cook on a medium flame for 8 to 10 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
Add the chilli powder, garam masala, and 1/2 cup of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute.
Add the roasted chana dal-urad mixture and 1.5 cups of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes while stirring occasionally.
